Todays BeerColors™ Funky Art Favorite: Serenity

Today’s BeerColors™ funky art favorite is Serenity. Serenity was so-named simply because of the overwhelming feeling of peacefulness is provides. While an abstract painting, Serenity is reminiscent of breezes and snow on mountain peaks. It is a very peaceful scene painted with a 2011 A to Z Pinot Noir from A to Z Vineyards in Newberg, Oregon. Serenity is stunning when matted in white with a narrow inside black trim and displayed in a contemporary black frame.

Also, Serenity received an award winning ribbon at the 2016 Wilsonville Art Festival!

You can buy your limited edition print of Serenity by going to our Shop Our Art section, clicking on the Serenity image and following the prompts through checkout. Enjoy the peacefulness of Serenity in your own home or office!

Artist Jean Miotte (1926-2016)

beercolors-serenityArtist Jean Miotte was a French abstract artist who painted with watercolors, acrylics, oils and gouache. He also used ink, etching, lithography and collages in his work. Before becoming a well-known artist, Mr Miotte was a set designer in London, England.  His artistic portfolio is often characterized by black lines and only 5-6 colors. Mr. Miotte is one of our favorite artists. His work can be seen at the Chelsea Art Museum in Manhattan, New York.

Serenity (shown above) was named simply because you feel serene when looking at it. It is a very peaceful scene which is stunning when matted in white with a narrow inside black trim and displayed in a contemporary black frame.

Serenity was painted with a fine 2011 A to Z Pinot Noir from A to Z Vineyards in Newberg, Oregon. Serenity may be purchased by going to Shop Our Art, clicking on the Modern and Abstract category then clicking on the Serenity image and following the prompts through checkout.

Artist Willem de Kooning (1904-1997)

beercolors-serenityWillem de Kooning was a prominent Dutch abstract expressionist and sculptor who came to the United States as a stowaway on a British freighter in 1926. His first solo exhibition was in New York in 1948, solely displaying black and white compositions because he was too poor to purchase artist paints. His early work was representational. In the early 1960’s, he moved from figurative art with female subjects and from landscapes to painting abstract art.

Mr. de Kooning was the recipient of numerous major awards, including the 1964 Presidential Medal of Freedom and the 1986 National Medal of Arts. Among his well known works are “Woman V” (1952/53), his 1972 bronze sculpture “Seated Woman on a Bench” and his 1972 sculpture “Clamdigger”, which sold at auction in 2014 for $29.2 million dollars. “Woman III” was Mr. de Kooning’s  highest priced painting sale, selling for $137.5 million dollars in 2006.

I recommend viewing the well-respected Artsy (www.artsy.net) website for further information and to see numerous of his excellent works on their Willem de Kooning page, at  www.artsy.net/artist/willem-de-kooning.

Paul Jenkins first solo exhibition was in 1954. The Whitney Museum of American Art purchased “Divining Rod” from his first 1954 New York exhibition! He split time between Paris and New York from 1955 onward.

In 1959 Peggy Guggenheim bought “Osage” from his Paris studio. Mr. Jenkins also became well known for his watercolors, in particular from his “Water & Color” exhibition in 1994. He also worked in glass and sculptures.

Paul Jenkins works are part of the collections of MOMA (Museum of Modern Art), the National Gallery of Art, The Whitney Museum, the Smithsonian, the Stedelijk Museum and the Tate amongst many prestigious museums.
