Todays Funky Art Favorite: Happy Space

Happy Space is an intriguing blend of shapes and colors reminiscent of a musical composition in its style and its flowing manner. Colorful yet sedate, I find the Happy Space design to be harmonious and restful while also alive with vibrant movement and playfulness.

A Bridgeport Kingpin Double Red Ale from Bridgeport Brewing Co. in Portland, Oregon was used in the creation of this painting.

Order your limited edition print now and enjoy your Happy Space for years to come! All you need to do is go to the Happy Space image under the Modern and Abstract drop down category under Shop Our Art, click on the image and follow the prompts through checkout!

Bicknell’s Thrush: An Endangered Bird

Bicknell's ThrushRarest of all North America breeding thrushes, the Bicknell’s Thrush is classified as vulnerable in the endangered species continuum. Their song has been described as very flute-like in tone. Quite the travelers, Bicknell’s Thrushes always spend their winters vacationing in the Greater Antilles.

A great tasting Bridgeport Kingpin Double Red Ale from Bridgeport Brewing Co. and an excellent Henry Weinhard’s Private Reserve from Blitz-Weinhard Co. were used in the painting of Bicknell’s Thrush (a portion of which is shown above). Prices for Bicknell’s Thrush begin at $70. Enjoy your print now!

Portlandia: A Top City in Beer and Laughter

dahlias HiDefPortland, Oregon is the oft-ribbed city central to the culture spoofed in Portlandia. Quite often the popular Portlandia series is spot-on in its portrayal of the weirdness and caricature of itself that is Portland. No doubt Portlandia will have fun with the fact that Portland, Oregon was just  voted the best beer city in the United States by Oyster.com, a hotel ranking website. Denver placed second, followed by San Diego. Oyster.com explained that Portland has the highest concentration of breweries of any city in the world (no doubt due to its long rainy seasons-spring, fall, winter and much of summer) and the “…endless offerings in this quirky beer-loving-hipster-friendly city”. Well said and well earned, Portland!

Portland (aka Portlandia) also took 5th place as the funniest U.S. city behind Chicago, Boston, Atlanta and Washington D.C. (we all know why D.C. is funny) according to rankings in a new book entitled “The Humor Code: A Global Search for What Makes Things Funny” written by McGraw and Warner from Boulder, Colorado. Way to kick it Portland!! To underscore the seriousness of humor in Portland, Portland just held its 7th Annual Bridgetown Comedy Festival which included over 200 comics. This festival was  probably held so rain-soaked Portlander’s ccould do something indoors on their way to or from grabbing a local brew. In any event, Portland is achieving recognition for its cultural diversity and unique lifestyle. Prost to Portland!

Dahlias Enjoying the Sun was painted with a very good Portland beer, Bridgeport Kingpin Double Red Ale. It can be found in the Modern and Abstract section of the drop down menu under Shop Our Art. Prices start at $70. Own a treasured piece of Portland and it’s contribution to the culture of Portlandia!

Is it Spring Yet?

Dahlias-Enjoying-the-SunI know, I know… Spring isn’t officially here yet but most of us wish it was! This has been a difficult winter for many and most of us can’t wait to get outdoors without bundling up with several extra layers of clothing. It seems like it should be time by now to go find our lighter clothes and shorts, locate our sunglasses and catch some rays!

In the spirit of impending spring and summer, Dahlias Enjoying the Sun was recently painted with Bridgeport Kingpin Double Red Ale from Bridgeport Brewing Company (www.bridgeportbrew.com) . A photo of the Kingpin bottle is superimposed on the Dahlias Enjoying the Sun painting at left.

I can assure you no beer was harmed (although some was joyfully consumed) during the creation of this whimsical painting showing that plants also look forward to enjoying the warmer weather, as do animals and humans.

You can find the print of Dahlias Enjoying the Sun in our drop down Abstract/Modern section under Shop Our Art. Prices start at $70. Enjoy!
