Today is Beer and Pizza Day!!

According to days of the year.com (http://www.daysoftheyear.com), the history of Beer and Pizza Day is the history of two amazing substances that traveled the long and winding roads of culinary antiquity to ultimately come together on our tables and hearts.

Beer is the oldest alcoholic beverage known to man, and has occupied an important part of our culinary past as both a liquid food source as well safe way of imbibing water. With all the diseases that occupied water and no knowledge of where their illnesses came from, it’s hardly surprising that, historically, beer was considered one of the safest drinks around! The Ancient Egyptians included beer in every level of their food chain, and it was a favorite drink of the slaves building the pyramids as it gave them calories and protein needed to make it through the hard work days.

Pizza, on the other hand, heralds back to 997 AD in Gaeta, Italy, though of course it didn’t have any tomato sauce on it. Tomatoes didn’t come to Europe until the discovery of the New World, and when Italians discovered tomatoes they pretty much never looked back! The first place it went? Their favored food, Pizza! Finally, after thousands of years, these two amazing things came together to be celebrates in Beer and Pizza Day!

Pizza is amazing and comes in a huge variety of flavors. Some pizza places even have specialty beers they use to pair with pizza. Believe it or not, there’s even a bottled version of this holiday, it’s called Pizza Beer!! Enjoy this day and its historical origins!

Today is International Cat Day!

According to http://www.daysoftheyear.com ,International Cat Day was established in 2002 by IFAW, the International Fund for Animal Welfare, among other animal rights groups, to celebrate the most popular pet on the planet, the cat.

There are an estimated 500 million cats across the world, which means that most every extended family is bound to have an aunt with more kittens than former husbands. That’s great, because owning a cat has been shown to improve mental health and to relieve stress, anxiety and depression. So when it’s raining cats and dogs outside, there are enough cats that you can cuddle with, any black, ginger, Persian, Siamese, Burmese, Bengal, Shorthair, Munchkin, Balinese, RagaMuffin or any other cat of your choosing.

So roll out the red carpet and the catnip for your furry feline friend, because International Cat Day is the one day of the year when black cats bring good luck and even ‘cat eye’ sunglasses match your entire wardrobe. You can also buy Two Cats (shown above) by going to the Modern and Abstract category under Shop Our Art and following the prompts after clicking on the Two Cats image.

Today is International Artists Day

french clown CC web1000International Artists Day honors creative souls who leave a record for the future.
