According to John Foyston (www.oregonlive.com), a highly respected beer expert and author who writes a blog entitled The Beer Here for Oregon Live, two fellows from North Carolina have founded the Next Glass which is a company that is tasting beers and wines from all across the U.S. They are testing them using objective laboratory standards and will soon be releasing their new app.
According to John in his October 21, 2014 blogpost, “The app is going to be perfect for anyone who is tired of subjective descriptions based on the personal opinions of others. In an effort to test as many unique and local craft beers as possible, the Beer Census 2014 [van] is traveling the country, with the whole intention of the Beer Census to bring national recognition for local craft breweries…With Next Glass, you get personalized ratings on beer and wine that are scientifically tailored to your tastes. Since taste begins at the molecular level, Next Glass has tested tens of thousands of bottles through its lab to analyze and store their DNA, with hundreds being added each week…[you will be able to] rate drinks you’ve already tasted to build a Taste Profile tailored to your palate. Then, get ratings on new beers and wines based on their DNA and your preferences.”
The Next Glass app sounds like a neat idea!
