Todays Funky Favorite Art: Lollipop Garden

Today’s favorite BeerColors™ funky art is Lollipop Garden (shown at left). There were no lollipops harmed during the painting of this whimsical and funky WineDesigns™ print! The idea of Lollipop Garden arose from thinking of flowers with the same joy and anticipation as a child who covets candy. Hopefully, the same feeling of exhilaration is conveyed to you when you view this print!

The inspiration for this image came from forms common to Karel Appel’s work with a dash of Kandinsky and a sprinkle of Picasso while painting with a very tasty white wine, a local 2012 Pinot Grigio from Pheasant Run Winery in Canby, Oregon.

Art, Perfection, Cranberries and Applesauce

beercolors-lollypop-gardenArt embodies imperfection as it is the product of creativity, not engineering. Art is not precise nor perfect because it is an expression of the heart and soul. BeerColors™ embraces imperfection in art as it reflects the human condition and is real.

I have gathered a few quotes about art, artistic perfection, cranberries and applesauce from Brainy Quote (www.brainyquotes.com) that you may find thought-provoking and/or humorous:

“If art is to nourish the roots of our culture, society must set the artist free to follow his vision wherever it takes him”- John F. Kennedy; “The artist who aims at perfection achieves it in nothing”- Eugene Delacroix; “Pictures must not be too picturesque”- Ralph Waldo Emerson; “The principle of true art is not to portray but to evoke”- Jerzy Kosinski; “In art as in love, instinct is enough”- Anatole France; “To an engineer, good enough means perfect. With an artist, there’s no such thing as perfect-” Alexander Calder; and finally, to make everything about art perfectly clear, Groucho Marx sums up art, water, cranberries and applesauce when he said: “Well, Art is Art, isn’t it? Still, on the other hand, water is water. And east is east and west is west and if you take cranberries and stew them like applesauce they taste much more like prunes than rhubarb does. Now you tell me what you know.”

Clink! A Taste of Oregon Wine

beercolors-lollypop-gardenThe Oregon Historical Society is celebrating the growth of the Oregon wine industry in it’s Clink! A Taste of Oregon Wine event which runs through September 20, 2014.

Oregon has risen to become the third largest producer of wine in North America, starting from one plant in the 1880’s and evolving to a current count of 72 varietals. According to Kerry Tymchuk, executive director of the Oregon Historical Society “…Oregon wines have just exploded–not only on the national scene but the international scene…There are people flocking here for wine tourism”. It is estimated the wine industry in Oregon accounts for $2.7 billion dollars in revenue! So, have a taste..and a Toast to Oregon wines! Clink!
